Defining roles and responsibilities in an enterprise GIS is very important. As petroleum industry has not many professionals with expertise in Geoscience as well as Geographical Information System at the same time, therefore it’s important to model scenarios in which different roles take responsibility of different aspects of the system. Companies should revisit their GIS infrastructure in regular intervals and should introduce more people, processes and technologies to get maximum return from their investment in GIS. Although an enterprise GIS organization possess various roles like GIS business analyst, programmer, data expert, ETL experts, QC/QA and others however the focus of this post is limited to data stewards and data owners.
